Profile

The Kulturzentrum Schlachthof was born out of the squatting of the former slaughterhouse grounds in 1980. The aim was to preserve the buildings and open them up as a space for a free cultural scene. We are still pursuing this goal today, as we are convinced that a diverse culture is an essential component of a lively democratic society.

We are a socio-cultural centre and see it as our task to create and maintain spaces for culture and to open them up for a variety of cultural activities. With our workshops, we offer fields of experimentation under one roof in various artistic and media genres, from theatre, music, film and radio plays to writing for our in-house magazine. In the spirit of promoting social diversity, everyone can actively participate in culture and develop their own creative voice in the workshops.

With the Kesselhalle we have one of the most beautiful stages in Bremen, where we offer both internationally known acts as well as professionally supervised and staged performance from our local artists in front of a large audience. This makes us a springboard into the public eye for many upcoming artists.

We have been firmly anchored in the cultural scene in Bremen for over 40 years, and we will remain so: as a home port for our loyal regulars, competent cooperation partners for newcomers with project ideas, a laboratory for young artists, a discourse space for social and political issues. Our doors are always open!
